The author discusses the economic and social constraints upon the writing of poetry and analyzes the ideological processes in modern Hausa poetry in theory. Then he presents a practical analysis of different categories of poetry texts, e.g. praise texts, political and religious texts, behavioural norm texts, and public enlightenment texts.
By doing so he examines in detail the processes whereby texts manifested and intertwined representations of the nature of society – and power relations in particular – deploying also the processes of symbolic creativity in poetic language.
