Beria, also known by the xenonym Zaghawa, is a Saharan language spoken by some 150,000 people in the regions of Wadai and Darfur on the border of Chad and Sudan. Saharan forms a branch of the Nilo-Saharan phylum. Besides Beria, the Saharan group includes three more languages: Kanuri-Kanembu of north-eastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad area, Teda-Daza of northern Chad and eastern Niger, and the now extinct Berti of eastern Darfur.

In the language in focus there are some dialects, which enable the research to classify the language Beria in three dialectal areas. Linguistic characteristics are the classification as a tone language, and vowel harmony.

The present work first describes the categories noun, verb, and “nominoverbal” (auxiliary) in their typical form and function. The structures of deverbalization are analysed thereafter. Their verbal results are examined in different models, considering the interacting grammatical categories. Finally the reader finds wordlists Beria-French and French-Beria with deverbal lexems.

Under these links you will find further descriptions of Beria/Zaghawa, among them a comprehensive grammar of Beria, and descriptions of further Saharan languages and cultures:
